Foodio is an app for meal planning and shopping for a household. We only store what the app needs in order to work. We don’t sell your information, we show no ads, and there are no analytics or tracking tools in the app.

Data controller

Christoffer Ejerskov Pedersen is the data controller for the processing of your personal data in Foodio. You can always contact us through .

What information we process

Account details

Name and email address. If you set a password, it is always stored encrypted (hashed) — we cannot see it. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we store the id the service gives us so we can recognise you next time.

Your content

Recipes, meal plans, shopping lists, favourites, item categories and the item names you have used before. This is stored so the app can suggest and remember across your devices.

Pictures

If you choose to put a picture on a recipe, the picture is stored on our server.

Technical information

To keep you signed in we store an access token. Our server keeps ordinary operational logs, which may contain the IP address and time of requests. They are used for operation and security — not to profile you.

Sharing within a household

This is the most important thing to understand about Foodio: recipes, meal plans, shopping lists and favourites belong to the household, not to you as a person. Every member of your household can see and edit the same content, and every member can invite and remove other members. Your name and email address are visible to the other members. If you invite someone into your household, you are sharing all of the content with them.

Why we may process the information

The processing takes place in order to deliver the agreement you enter into by creating an account (GDPR article 6(1)(b)), and on the basis of our legitimate interest in secure and stable operation (article 6(1)(f)).

Who we share with

We do not resell information and we do not share it for marketing. We use the following processors and services:

  • Our hosting provider, who runs the server your data sits on. The server is located in Denmark and the provider is NordicWay.
  • Apple and Google, if you choose to sign in with their services. They tell us your id and possibly your name and email.
  • Our email provider, when we send you a password reset code.

How long we keep it

Your account and your content are kept for as long as you have an account. Password reset codes are stored hashed and expire after 10 minutes — or immediately, if guessed wrong five times. Operational logs are kept for 7 days. Database backups are deleted after 7 days at the latest.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account directly in the app under Settings → Profile → Delete account. If you share a household with others, you’ll be asked what should happen:

  • Only my data — your account, your favourites and your history are deleted, while the household and the shared content stay with the other members.
  • Everything in the household — the household and all shared content are deleted for every member. The app shows you who this affects before you confirm.

If you are alone in your household, everything is deleted. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. You can also ask us to delete it by writing to us through .

Your rights

You have the right to access the information we process about you, to have inaccurate information corrected, to have your information erased, to have the processing restricted, to object to the processing, and to receive your information in a common format (data portability). Write to us through and we’ll help you.

Children

Foodio is made for adults in a household. We do not knowingly collect information about children under 13. If we become aware that this has happened, we delete the information.

Security

All communication between the app and our server happens over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Passwords and reset codes are stored exclusively in hashed form. No method is 100% secure, but we use commonly accepted precautions to protect your information.

Changes

We may update this policy. The version in force is always on this page, with the date of the last update at the top. For significant changes we give notice in the app.
